Burnley have made a bid to sign midfielder Dale Stephens from league rivals Brighton & Hove Albion, according to The Athletic. The Clarets were interested in acquiring the services of the player four years ago and had a total of six bids rejected by Brighton then.
Stephens even handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force his way out of the club on that occasion, but the Seagulls refused to sanction his departure. On that potential move, Stephens said back in 2018: "The ultimate thing was I wanted to play in the Premier League - I'm happy with the way it turned out.
"At the time when it was all happening, I was 27, 28, and you think about if you're going to get that opportunity again. I just wanted to fulfill my potential of playing in the Premier League and I'm very thankful I've managed to do it with Brighton."
Stephens is in the final year of his contract at the AMEX Stadium and LancsLive understands there has indeed been a bid made.
