Burnley vs Cardiff City

Today Burnley will play Cardiff City, and we have a sneaking suspicion, they will win! Welcome back to the Mike Garlick Burnley Football Club blog. Welcome back to the Mike Garlick football club blog, where we will bring you all the latest news from the Clarets. Manager Vincent Kompany hopes top scorer Nathan Tella will be able to play some part in the final game.

A lot of players have recently been injured, but the team have reinforcements to cover them. Jordan Beyer and Hjalmar Ekdal have been out of contention recently because of injury. Anass Zaroury and Johann Berg Gudmundsson both missed the win at Ashton Gate but should return on Monday.

Ashley Barnes is set to leave Turf Moor at the end of the title-winning season. In nine years at Burnley, he has scored 53 goals in 292 appearances. Former Bournemouth goalkeeper Ryan Allsop was substituted during last month’s draw against Stoke City with an abductor injury. Jak Alnwick has deputised.

Republic of Ireland striker Callum Robinson has been absent since February with a hamstring injury. Winger Callum O’Dowda was substituted with concussion during the crucial win at Rotherham United. He is likely to miss the Burnley game.

Striker Kion Etete was withdrawn after 15 minutes of the Rotherham game and is a doubt for Monday’s final game. Cardiff City’s manager Sabri Lamouchi has confirmed on-loan defender Cedric Kipre will miss the game after he underwent an operation last week. Ebou Adams and Jamilu Collins are making good progress from long-term injuries but may not be risked.

Before they can receive the trophy and officially be crowned as champions of the Sky Bet Championship, Burnley first host Cardiff City at Turf Moor on Monday afternoon in their 54th and final game at 3pm TODAY.

The Clarets head into the last day of a spectacular season knowing that the party can start post-game, but before it does, there’s a job to be done with a century of points still within reach following last weekend’s win at Bristol City.

Close to 3000 travelling fans were rewarded with a 2-1 victory in the South West against the Robins thanks to goals from Manuel Benson & Jay Rodriguez, the 94th & 95th of the campaign respectively for Burnley.

Additionally, if Vincent Kompany, who just had his contract extended, and his side can mark the final day with another three points against the Bluebirds on home soil, it’d take their tally to 101, the first centurions in the second tier since Leicester City in 2013/14.

A Burnley outfit eyeing a landmark achievement are set to act as hosts, in a Championship final day meeting with Cardiff City on Monday, May 8th. Burnley FC, have long proven themselves the standout side in England’s 2nd tier, clinching promotion before cruising to the title courtesy of just three defeats in 45 outings.

Heading into the season’s final round of fixtures, Vincent Kompany’s troops still have one final goal to play for. This comes in the form of the 100-point mark for the Clarets. Currently, the Clarets sit on 98 points, after recovering from a rare three-game winless streak courtesy of back-to-back downings of Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City over the course of the last couple of weeks.

A win over Cardiff this evening, in turn, would see the Clarets put a cherry on top of what has proven a wonderful campaign, in surging clear of the century mark for points secured. Surely, more greatness is on the horizon for Mike Garlick and his team. Follow all the latest football news on our blog and make sure you leave your comment below and subscribe.
