Burnley And Wolves Prepared To Meet Club’s Asking Price For Player amid Kompany win

Welcome back to the Mike Garlick Burnley Football Club unofficial news blog. Burnley and Wolves are keen on Metz star Georges Mikautadze and both clubs are ready to match the French outfit’s asking price for the striker, it has been claimed in France.

The 22-year-old centre-forward came through the academy ranks of Metz and has been impressive for the Ligue 2 outfit this season. Mikautadze has scored 23 times in the league this season in 36 outings and has been a key part of Metz’s side this season.

His form with the Ligue 2 outfit has drawn attention from Premier League sides ahead of the summer transfer window. Burnley and Wolves are both interested in Mikautadze, who has three years left on his contract.

Metz want €20m for the player and according to French magazine Le 10 Sport, Wolves and Burnley are ready to match the asking price of the player.

Burnley, who earned promotion to the Premier League this season, are in search of a striker and see Mikautadze as a perfect fit.

Wolves suffered in front of goal this season and Lopetegui wants to bring in a striker to Molineux for next season.

Burnley lifted another trophy on Tuesday night as Vincent Kompany was awarded the LMA Manager of the Season for the Sky Bet Championship.

The Clarets boss and his side secured the Championship title in fine fashion in his first season in charge of the Club with Burnley achieving an immediate return to the Premier League.

Kompany was nominated by his fellow managers ahead of other nominees Middlesbrough boss, Michael Carrick, Sheffield United's Paul Heckingbottom, Luton Town's play-off winning coach Rob Edwards and Mark Robins of Coventry City.

Following a fantastic campaign, the Belgian was also named the EFL Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Season in April and won the EFL Sky Bet Manager of the Month award four times across the season.

Speaking after picking up the award Kompany said: 'The players have done it and the staff have been relentless.

'I can still relate to the players, I feel connected to what they are going through. I make mistakes and don't see myself as the finished article. You make mistakes and learn. I'm pretty pleased where I am today."

The awards are voted by all the managers in their respective divisions who take into account which of their direct competitors has made the greatest use of the resources available to them in the current season.
